Bangkok Thailand City Break Travel Tips Guide I have found the cheapest way to get a week’s holiday in Bangkok is to book a package deal. For the price of the cheapest flights I could find on the Internet I managed to get a package deal that included flight with a good airline and hotel accommodation. That meant that the hotel accommodation was in effect free. Now that is what I call a good deal. |

Bangkok is a very popular transport hub. Thailand has thousands of tourists visit each year. It is a location people travel too so that they can get a connecting flight to another part of the globe. This keeps the cost of flights to Thailand low compared with other nearby capitals. Most of the hotels run full and half day trips to the many tourist sights outside Bangkok. Depending on how many there are in your group it may be cheaper to hire a chauffeur and his air conditioned car for the day rather than paying for a number of day trip tickets. The staff at your hotel front desk will be able to find you a car. Remember to haggle on the price with the driver after you have told him where you want to go and how long you want to employ him. They normally have a day rate but ask what time that goes up to. Ask about additional costs like entrance fees and tolls. Remember to keep some cash in reserve for his tip at the end of the day.
Make sure you specify you want a driver that speaks good English as it can make your day so much more pleasurable. This is what we did most of the time. It was great to be able to ask lots of questions about what you were seeing, the different crops and lifestyles. Having a native speaker with local knowledge also helped in situations where you need to find a clean western style toilet. Some of the most popular trips include the Bangkok Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak, the bridge over the river Kwai, Ayutthaya Ancient city and temple, Thai culture dinner show, and the Buddhist Monastery Tiger Temple. The best trip involves going up to the north of the country to Chang Mai and spending a day looking after Elephants, big and small, in the jungle.
