1871
Joel senior, Lucy his wife and James Moore are missing from the
census record of 1871. James would have left home. Joel and Lucy
would have been in their fifties. Joel senior appears in a later
census having remarried so the reason he may have left the
family home could be that his wife Lucy had passed away.
Joel Junior is now head of the household at 27 John Street,
Waterloo Road, Lambeth, London. He is only 25 but has been
promoted to ‘Printers Pressman’. His younger brothers William
aged 22 and Charles 18, have followed his footsteps into ‘the
print’. William is a Machine Printer and Charles is also a
Pressman Printer. A young teenager called Thomas Moore aged 16
is shown living at John Street. He is working as a Warehouse Lad
and is recorded as being ‘wife brother?’ which could mean Lucy’s
brothers child.
